Hi there guys! So, I was informed that it’s my turn to write something for the newsletter space… and these are my ideas:

I’d like very much to use the opportunity to speak to you about why taking English classes is a privilege. As an ex-operator, I know that you are extremely tired at the end of your 8½ hour shift.

Thus… I started thinking of how I can make this fun for you all. Those of you that I’m lucky enough to have as students, should know by now what I’m talking about… jijijijiji.

Here are a couple of reasons why taking English classes (especially at YASC) is always a good idea:

  1. Your English lessons at YASC are free!!!!

I don’t think it necessary for me to tell you what English classes costs out there… It’s a small fortune!!! Here at YASC all it costs you is an hour of your time a week, and of course – your cooperation and interest. THINK ABOUT IT…

  1. The ability to communicate in a new language

The biggest benefit gained when you commit to learn English (or any language) is being able to communicate with the language itself and create connections with a wider range of the world’s population.

  1. Using more of your brain-capacity

Let’s face it… we don’t make an effort to remember things anymore. Everything is in ‘the extension of our palms’ our cellular devices. We sleep with it, we take it to the bathroom, we’re not able to eat without it these days, etc. If it’s not in our cellular device then we’ll surely find it with our Personal Computer. This is the reason why I incorporated Memory exercises…, not just that, I’ll also help to improve our Active Listening Skills.

Language learning has shown an increase in memory capacities, especially strong in short-term memory.  This is a huge benefit because it allows the brain to keep information in the brain for longer durations while thinking processes are activated.

  1. Increased mental flexibility

By learning a different language, we keep mental pathways “opened up” which allows us to use “differing avenues for thought.” Language learning helps “exercise” the brain to keep it flexible and agile.

  1. Increased problem-solving abilities

Another benefit gained from language learning is increased problem-solving abilities in all of the following areas: abstract thinking skills, concept formation, creative hypothesis formulation, strengthened capacity to identify, understand and solve problems; the ability to focus on a task by filtering out distractions and extraneous information and an increase in multi-tasking ability.

  1. Better comprehension of how language works and is used

People with multilingual communication are able to better read and interpret social situations, which improves our performance in social settings.

  1. Prevents the deterioration of brain functioning over time

Multilingual students have a decreased rate of 2 to 4 years in the development of age-related cognitive problems such as dementia.

  1. Increased ability in digital literacy

The conclusion of all these advantages results in one last benefit: an increased ability in digital literacy. Because of these improved mental abilities, people who are multilingual have a noticeable ability to stay up to date with modern technologies. Clearly having increased mental agility due to language acquisition helps the average language learners better stay atop all of the technological and informational changes constantly evolving in today’s world.

There is really a lot to be gained by perfecting your English. I urge you all to take advantage of the opportunity. There’s an old Chinese proverb: “The day you stop learning is the day that you die”. Therefore, I shall see you in class…

Best regards
Your English teacher.
